Description

What is Diastasis recti? It's a condition where the two halves of the rectus abdominis muscle (the "six-pack" muscles) separate along the midline of the abdomen. This separation occurs due to the stretching or weakening of the connective tissue (the linea alba) that holds these muscles together. It commonly happens during pregnancy, as the growing uterus puts pressure on the abdominal muscles, but it can also occur in men and non-pregnant women, particularly due to factors like obesity, heavy lifting, or certain exercises. How can Acupuncture help? Acupuncture stimulates circulation and promotes the flow of blood and energy (qi) throughout the body. By improving blood flow to the abdominal area, acupuncture supports the healing process of tissues and muscles, including the connective tissue (linea alba) that has been stretched or weakened in diastasis recti. During each session, needles are applied directly to the abdominal area along with an Infrared Heat Lamp. At the end of each session, athletic tape is applied to the abdomen to reinforce and support the muscles as they work to come back together. Every person is different and healing time can vary based on your age, level of activity and frequency of treatments. If you have any questions, please email with any enquiries you have.
